Featured Case Study – Taylor Farms

taylor farms case study distributed generation

Project Details

Being the world’s largest processor of fresh-cut vegetables means growing, packaging, storing, and shipping plenty of fruit and vegetables every year. For Taylor Farms, that also required a great deal of energy.

As part of its mission to be North America’s favorite maker of sales and healthy fresh foods, the company is investing heavily in innovative zero waste programs. Their goal is to raise industry standards and preserve a healthier world for future generations.

Through a combination of solar – including 4.2 MW in multiple installations built and financed by REC Solar – wind, fuel cells and cogeneration, Taylor Farms reduced 175,00 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions in 2 years. Three of their facilities are now Total Resource Use and Efficiency (TRUE) platinum zero waste certified and more than 90% energy independent.
