Project Description

Hawaiian Electric looked to find a solution that would allow them to supply their customers on Oahu with the lowest cost utility solution possible, while still adhering to Hawaii’s sustainability goal of using 100% renewable energy by 2045. The U.S. Navy was looking for a solution that would allow them to improve their energy resiliency at the West Loch Annex. The partnership was formed in order to accomplish both of their joint needs.

REC Solar is currently building a 20-megawatt solar facility on 102-acres at the Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam West Loch Annex. This solution will feed into the island’s utility grid, and serve all Hawaiian Electric’s customers on Oahu. This system will support all the facilities at the Naval base, which in turn improves the base’s resiliency to large spikes in utility use. This project will yield the lowest-cost electricity in the state at less than 8 cents per kilowatt-hour.

“This project will help our state move closer to achieving its renewable energy goals and we appreciate our collaboration with a reliable partner like REC Solar.”
