Project Description
Sonoma Mountain (SOMO) Village is a mixed-use development that provides power to over 600,000 square feet of commercial space and 1,500 residential homes. The billion-dollar redevelopment’s mixed-use campus consumes about 9 MWh of energy annually. Village created a detailed Sustainability Action Plan and chose REC Solar to add approximately 2 MW to its existing solar installation from 2010 to 2016, furthering their LEED Platinum status.
Building on SOMO Village’s existing 1MW solar installation, REC Solar has nearly tripled the solar capacity and halved the cost per watt at SOMO Village, offsetting more than 50 percent of the site’s total energy. REC Solar produced a solar solution that delivers 35 percent bill savings on the facility’s large meter and 90 percent bill savings offset on its smaller meter. The final combined systems will save approximately $680,000 per year — a 30-year cumulative savings of over $20 million!
“We were delighted to have REC Solar coordinate additional solar capacity for our buildings at Sonoma Mountain Village. This additional 1.16 MW photovoltaic system allows us to generate 100% of our power needs for the planned community with on-site renewable energy.”
Brad Baker, SOMO Village President
