Project Description
Kauai Island Utility Cooperative sought to decrease dependence on oil and decrease energy costs by utilizing solar power.
REC Solar completed construction of the second-largest solar electric system in the state of Hawaii, generating enough clean energy to meet 5% of Kauai’s annual needs. The system is now generating electricity at a cost of about 12.5 cents per kilowatt hour, compared to about 24 cents by means of burning oil.
“REC Solar brings experience and professionalism to this project. We’ve been pleased by the team’s efforts at working collaboratively with us and with the community that will host it.”David Bissel, KIUC President & CEO
