Rohnert Park’s SOMO Village turning up solar to 3.1 MW
North Bay Business Journal | Cynthia Sweeney
Come August, SOMO Village will be generating a whopping 3.1 megawatts in solar energy, enough power to supply 50 percent of the development’s energy use,or enough power to supply energy to about 900 homes.
The billion-dollar mixed-use southeast Rohnert Park development is a diverse mix of tenants and properties that consumes about 6 MW of energy annually.
The installation is projected to save $680,000 per year in energy costs and close to $2.5 million over 30 years.
Renusol and Rec Solar team up to help Haas automation save money
Renusol America, a leading provider of solar PV mounting solutions with systems installed across the US, today announces that it has provided its rail-less and modular Renusol EW mounting system for 2,472 Canadian Solar PV panels on a low slope rooftop at Haas Automation in Oxnard, CA.
Renusol partnered with REC Solar, a national provider of commercial solar and energy solutions, to develop the 779kW (DC) commercial system. Haas Automation is the largest machine tool builder in the western world and expects to save over $110,000 annually on its electricity bills with this solar installation.

County Government Center solar project nears completion
Ventura County Star | Anne Kallas
More than 3,000 solar panels have sprouted up in the parking lot of the Ventura County Government Center, and when the $4.8 million project is completed this spring, it is expected to supply 10 percent of the electricity needed at the massive complex on Victoria Avenue in Ventura. The project is part of a countywide effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, according to Ventura County Executive Officer Mike Powers.
Vital Stats on the Biggest Solar Project in Hawaii
Greentech Media | Eric Wesoff
REC Solar, acting as project contractor, just broke ground on what will be the biggest utility-scale solar power plant on the Hawaiian islands. (You'll recall that Duke Energyacquired a majority stake in solar installer REC Solar in February of last year.)
We spoke with Drew Bradley, director of business development at REC, about the 27.6-megawatt (AC) project. He provided a trove of vital stats on the Waianae Solar project, located on the leeward side of the island of Oahu.
Schneider, REC Solar, Duke Partner on Microgrid “As a Service”
RenewableEnergyWorld.com | Jennifer Runyon
On February 9 at DistribuTECH, Schneider Electric announced that it is building a 400-kW solar plus storage microgrid at its Boston One campus in Massachusetts. The system will be able to store up to 1-MWh of electricity and will be able to “island” so as to potentially provide emergency shelter in the event of a long duration outage.
Castoro Cellars has completed an installation of a massive new solar project that will allow the winery to run 100% on solar power. The 625 kilowatt installation, which covers nearly three acres, will have an annual production of over one million kilowatt hours and eliminate an estimated $20,000 per month electricity bill. This marks the fifth solar installation in the last ten years by Castoro and stays true to their dedication to renewable energy and a sustainable business model.
Solar panels aren’t cheap. The cost for a typical 5-kilowatt setup for a house can easily run $10,000 or more. But it may pay off in the long run, at least according to REC Solar Director of Business Development Ryan Park. “That $10,000 system will produce somewhere in the range of $1,500 to $2,000 worth of energy per year,” Park said. “That is a big amount of money to put up front, but the numbers make sense.”
REC Solar completed the interconnection of two solar energy arrays totaling 388 kW at Niner Wine Estates in Paso Robles. Together, the systems will provide enough clean energy to power 100-percent of Niner’s 46-acre Heart Hill Vineyard, including the tasting room, restaurant and winery operations. Niner is expected to save $2 million over a 20-year period.
New Financing Model, Acquisition Position REC Solar for Commercial Success
Solar Builder | Chris Crowell
The solar industry is ripe with new opportunity, both in terms of previously underserved verticals and new technology, but getting the financials in place can still be a hurdle for mid-market customers. All of these storylines intersect with what’s going on at REC Solar.
Planning baby bell peppers, cucumber, and tomatoes for lunch? The locally grown ingredients for that sweet-sounding salad are likely to have come from Santa Maria’s Windset Farms, which recently completed a 1 million watt solar installation atop its packing plant.
Windset Farms goes solar with new 1-megawatt rooftop installation
Lompoc Record | Abby Hamblin
A cloudless, sunny sky set the perfect scene for the unveiling of a 1-megawatt solar energy rooftop installation above the greenhouses of Windset Farms on Tuesday...
