The Department of Veterans Affairs’ (VA) goal is to increase their renewable energy consumption to at least 5% nationwide. The competitive award of 18 solar electric PV systems to REC Solar since 2009 will help the VA meet that goal. REC Solar completed all design/build solar installation projects as both the prime and general contractor.
Temple | TEXAS
In July 2011, REC Solar was awarded the contract to design and install a 2.94 MW non-penetrating ballasted ground mount system atop a landfill at the Central Texas Veterans Health Care System in Temple, TX. This is the VA’s first application of this type of installation. REC Solar also completed a similar project at the VA Medical Center in Salem, VA.
Mather Air Force Base | CALIFORNIA
REC Solar designed and constructed a combined 1.1 MW single-axis-tracker ground-mount and 100 kW solar carport at the Federal Aviation Administration’s TRACON facility in Sacramento. REC Solar sourced the PPA financing entity, provided full turnkey EPC services and continues to monitor and service the system via an Operations and Maintenance contract.
Tucson | ARIZONA
Over 4.2 MW
The Department of Veterans Affairs competitively awarded REC Solar two separate contracts to furnish turnkey solar electric systems to the Southern Arizona VA Health Care System. The first project consisted of a 301.8 kW single-axis tracker. The second project provided over 4.1 MW parking lot carport-mounted systems.
San Dimas | CALIFORNIA
REC Solar was competitively awarded the turnkey EPC contract for a fixed ground mounted solar PV system for the USDA Technology and Development Center in July 2010. The basis of award was lowest cost per kWh delivered. The project was substantially completed within the 105-calendar day timeline in February 2011.
San Joaquin | CALIFORNIA
This 138.6 kW ground mounted array utilizes REC Group 235 Watt panels and Satcon inverters, and produces approximately 207,900 kWh of electricity annually, helping the VA achieve agency policy goals for fossil-fuel based energy footprint reduction through onsite renewable energy generation.
