REC Solar has now designed and installed three solar electric systems for DuPont Pioneer Hi-Bred Seed Company in Hawaii, at the company’s Waimea, Kunia, and Waialua facilities. The 282kW fixed-tilt, ground mounted system at the Waimea Research Center on the southern part of the island of Kauai is expected to save the facility approximately $200,000 per year in electrical costs. The system’s placement within one kilometer of the ocean in the Waimea Ditch, means that the system is often exposed to 1-2 feet of flowing water during the rainy season. This array, as well as the two 121kW roof-mounted systems at DuPont Pioneer’s Kunia and Waialua facilities, is designed with corrosion resistance as a high priority.
